The house and services offered

The house has had various names over the centuries, such as ‘Casa dels Diumenges’(the Sunday House), ‘Ca la Remei’(Remei’s house), ‘Ca la Llúcia’(Llúcia’s house), or ‘Casa del Llamp’(the Lightning House). It is a typical 18th century Catalan village house, and is, in all probability, older than the church next to it, which dates from 1753.

The house has three floors. On the second floor, there is a double room with en-suite bathroom, and a separate dining/living-room with a kitchen. The whole of the second floor is the accommodation we offer. There is also a rooftop terrace with spectacular views of the mountains around the village, extending to the Priorat. The name of the house – La Guineu – meaning ‘The Fox’ comes from a popular saying which refers to the inhabitants of L’Argentera as being isolated and elusive, like foxes.

The accommodation offered is designed to host two people, although as many as 4 can sleep in the flat, as there is a sofa-bed in the living room. The accommodation is self-catering, although breakfasts and dinners may be requested – please consult the ‘reservations and prices’ section. In the summer, we offer free use of the municipal swimming pool to our guests. We can provide advice on local tourist activities, such as cycling and walking routes, cultural visits, etc. We also organise specialised stays, such as the ‘English Weekend’, a linguistic immersion experience for learners of English, as well as guided Nature walks.
